Tata Martino News: Why won't he travel with the Mexican National Team to Honduras?

Even when El Tri had the possession of the ball for most part of the game, it was the Stars and Stripes who had the most dangerous plays, making Guillermo Ochoa the most important player for the Aztec squad, as he saved at least three scoring chances.

Now, the Americans will have to win either against Panama or Costa Rica to secure a ticket to Qatar 2022, while El Tri needs to earn at least three points against Honduras or El Salvador to be part of the three CONCACAF teams that will access directly to the international tournament.

But even if they manage to arrive at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they might do it without Gerardo “Tata” Martino, as the current Mexico National Team coach has announced that he won’t be travelling to Honduras with El Tri for the Sunday’s match.

Why won’t Martino travel with El Tri?

According to several reports, the reason of Martino’s absence in what now has become the most important game of the FIFA match window for the Aztec squad, has nothing to do with a decision of keeping him sidelined for sporting reasons.

His absence is related to his health condition, and even if it’s not clear what disease is preventing him to be part of the Mexican committee that will play against Honduras in Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, reports suggest that it’s related to a high blood pressure.

Will he arrive at Qatar?

During the press conference after the match, Martino talked about his future as El Tri’s coach and was open about the possibility of not arriving in Qatar with the Aztec squad, but he said that the decision is not up to him.

He also said that El Tri followers have the right to voice their opinions and discontent if they don’t like what they see on the pitch, as he knows that the lack of goals is something that is starting to worry them, especially with two games left to play.
