Gerardo Martino has undergone surgery on two occasions on his right eye and has not been able to recover properly, which has caused him to miss three matches of the Mexican national team so far.

Jorge Theiler will be closely followed by Gerardo Martino, who will be 'directing' by telephone in Orlando, as has become customary.

Gerardo Martino missed both of El Tri's qualifying matches against Costa Rica and Panama last year, when Jorge Theiler took his place.

In spite of care, he has not been able to recover

The Argentinean coach underwent a surgical procedure in September 2021, due to a detached retina and despite having all the necessary care, he had problems in the same retina again.

This took him back to the surgery room last February and he could not be ready for the game against Honduras.

He also had to undergo a third procedure recently with laser technology, but it did not work out well. For this reason, Gerardo Martino will miss his fourth game with the Mexican National Team, the one against Guatemala, due to his eye problem.
