Mexico national team: Palermo Ortiz to be called up by Martino for Mexico vs. Guatemala

El Tri will have five friendly games between April and August as well as two official games for the first round of the CONCACAF Nations League that Gerardo “Tata” Martino will use mostly to tryout players that don’t often get a chance to play with the Aztec squad.

That’s the case of the game against Guatemala that will be played on April 27 in Camping World Stadium, in Orlando, Florida, where El Tri will have a roster composed mainly of Liga MX players, although Marcelo Flores will also be part of the team.

This will be the second time that Flores is part of a call up for the Mexico National Team, as he already had his first cap back in December, when he played a few minutes at the end of the game against Chile that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Televisa is pressuring Martino to call one of his sponsored players

According to several reports from Mexican and English outlets, El Tri already asked Arsenal for the loan of Flores, who has been considered by Mikel Arteta to be part of the first team, although he hasn’t debuted in Premier League yet.

Arsenal agreed on loaning Flores given the experience that he’ll acquire will boost his confidence and improve his performances in the U-23 squad, making him a prospect to regularly play in Premier League next season, which will give him more opportunities to arrive at Qatar.

But given that El Tri will have three more spots on the roster for the World Cup, Televisa wants to impose Alejandro Zendejas, of his sponsored players, in one of those three new spots, something that could leave Marcelo Flores out Qatar 2022.

Will Zendejas make it to the World Cup?

The 24-year-old midfielder and left-winger has been one of the most consistent players in Liga MX since he joined Necaxa. Now with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz in Club América, he has found the solidity and regularity that could place him in Qatar.

Martino will have a tough decision to make when the time comes, as both Alejandro Zendejas and Marcelo Flores could contribute to El Tri’s offense in different ways, but the decision will be up to the Argentine coach, depending on the performances of both players in the second semester of the year.
