The Mexican national team faced Uruguay on the second friendly game that El Tri agreed to play over the summer as preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and showed that they are far from being a competitive team, as La Celeste crushed 3-0 the Aztec squad.

It wasn't Talavera's fault, Martino showcased the man responsible for the first goal against Uruguay

Whether it was the players that Gerardo “Tata” Martino started, as he lined up players like Jesús Angulo or Alfredo Talavera, who are not usuals on the starting XI and after the game won’t be part of the final roster, or the change of formation, El Tri didn’t have options to compete against Uruguay.

The lack of a level that will ensure a worthy participation in the World Cup is something that has been worrying the Mexican Football Federation for a while, which is why they are already looking for a replacement for Martino, who can be sacked before November if the bad results keep coming his way.

Who is the coach that can replace him?

After having one of the best starts for a coach with the Mexican national team, where he only lost one game on the first two years of his stint, Martino has lost the objective of the project and now the Aztec squad looks adrift.

That’s why FMF are considering replacing him with Marcelo Bielsa, as “El Loco” is still a free agent after parting ways with Premier League side Leeds United and given that he’s looking for a new team and he’s been targeted by a couple of national teams, El Tri seems like the perfect fit for him.

The young players that the Mexican team currently have could form a solid roster that Bielsa can build a long-term project around them, something that could lean the scale in favor of El Tri, although for him to arrive, FMF will have to pay him at least $7 million per year, a considerable to invest on a coach.
