Mexico National Team will face Uruguay on Thursday night in the second friendly game of the summer and the toughest one that El Tri will have against a South American team, as they are preparing to face Argentina in the World Cup.

But the friendly games that El Tri is currently playing, as well as the two CONCACAF Nations League matches that they will have in the second week of June are working as a filter for Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who is looking to reduce the 36-man list to a 26-man list for Qatar.

According to reports from sports journalist David Medrano, the Argentine coach has already selected 20 players that will be on the final roster, but he’s still figuring out who the other six players will be, and after the game against Nigeria, he has shortened the list.

Who is the player that won’t make it to Qatar?

After the game played in AT&T Stadium, Martino said that he knows that not all the players are going to be ready to play in the World Cup, and that he knows that not all of them have the level to play for the Mexican national team.

One of those players, who might be living his last games wearing El Tri colors, is Luis Romo, who has come to less in the past year, something that made him leave Cruz Azul and then again lost his place in CF Monterrey, where he’s struggled to adapt.

Romo has fallen in Martino’s list and now will have one last chance to recover his place in El Tri only if he manages to significantly improve his level in the upcoming months, but with players like Érick Gutiérrez, Érick Aguirre, and Fernando Beltrán having a better moment than him, it looks improbable that he will be part of the final roster.
