But Gerardo Martino, although finally understood that Rogelio Funes Mori didn’t have room in the starting XI, still decided to keep benched Julián Araujo, one of the most promising players El Tri currently has, to start Julio César Domínguez.

“Cata” Domínguez, who is another of Martino’s favorites, looked lost on the pitch of Estadio Azteca and at times it seemed like he was another Panamanian player, as he gave away a couple of balls that ended in dangerous plays in Mexico penalty area.

Why did Martino decide to keep Araujo on the bench?

Although Domínguez also helped Hirving Lozano at times, Araujo was a better option for El Tri on a game that required quickness to decide and move the ball around, but it is known that Gerardo Martino doesn’t like to play with young players as they are not experienced enough.
