After arriving in Atlético Madrid in 2019 as a free agent, Héctor Herrera was looking to continue his career as one of Mexico’s best midfielders, given that he already dominated Primeira Liga and needed a bigger challenge.

But he wasn’t expecting to find the rejection he received from Diego “Cholo” Simeone, especially in the current season, where Herrera has only played in 10 La Liga games, starting in just two of them. Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t been able to score or assist in any of his participations.

But after Saúl Ñiguez spoke up about his departure from Atlético, Herrera’s absence in Simeone’s starting XI makes sense, as the Spanish midfielder confessed that Simeone’s intensity, not only during training sessions but every time he’s around the players, has broken a lot of players, including him, which is why he decided to join Chelsea.

 

How much will Héctor Herrera has to put up with Simeone?

The 31-year-old midfielder currently is on the last six months of his contract with Atlético Madrid, which opens the door for him to start looking a new team as a free agent if he doesn’t want to renew contract with Atlético, although he’ll have to wait until the end of the season to move out of Wanda Metropolitano.
