Carlos Slim would become Atlético Madrid’s next owner and have another Mexican in the team
Los Colchoneros owe him $200 million after he helped them buy Wanda Metropolitano.
It’s no surprise to say that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim likes to invest in Mexican athletes and sports in general, as he’s helped boost Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Sergio “Checo” Pérez careers, amongst others, to make them top athletes.
Currently, the only soccer team he’s related to is Real Oviedo in Spanish second division, although he’s invested in other teams like CF Pachuca or Club León, in Liga MX, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to keep investing, and Atlético Madrid might be his next acquisition.
Carlos Slim helped Atlético build their new stadium, Wanda Metropolitano, and the Spanish side currently has a $200 million debt with the Mexican entrepreneur, something that could open the door for the Mexican to acquire the majority of the club’s actions.
Which Mexican player could Slim add to Atlético’s roster?
Hirving Lozano is currently one of the most exciting prospects in any European league, and Slim could boost his arrival in Wanda Metropolitano to join Héctor Herrera, who he already helped to become a Colchonero when he became a free agent in 2019.
