Santiago Solari had his last game as Club América coach on Tuesday night, after Las Águilas couldn’t beat Club Querétaro in Estadio Azteca, extending their lack of victories in home turf to six straight games without a victory, including the last games of Apertura 2021.

Club América is waiting for their new coach after parting ways with Santiago Solari

Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga decided on Wednesday morning that they couldn’t maintain the Argentine coach with the results Las Águilas have had in Clausura 2022, as they’ve won just one game and tied three more, which is why they agreed on his dismissal.

Las Águilas will face CF Monterrey on Saturday, on a game where Rayados will have José Manuel Vucetich for the first time in the bench, as he was just announced to return for a second stint to the team that earned him the nickname of “King Midas”.

But Solari departure might not be the only one that Club América will have, as there’s two players that were acquired after the Argentine coach personally requested them, and now that he’s gone, they will look to leave El Nido as they’ve lost their mentor.

Who are the players that want to leave Club América?

The newly arrived Jorge Meré is the first one on the list, as the 24-year-old central defender hasn’t fully set in Mexico and América. So far, he’s played in four games for Las Águilas, although he was benched by Solari in the last two games.

The second player that will follow Meré’s lead is his long-time friend Álvaro Fidalgo, as the 24-year-old midfielder was also requested by Solari. Fidalgo was a regular in Solari’s starting XI, which could open the possibility of his stay in Club América if he bonds well with the coach that arrives.

If Club América were to sell both players to recover their investment, they’ll have to receive at least $6.6 million, as the current market value of Jorge Meré is set at $2.75 million, while Álvaro Fidalgo’s is ath $3-85 million.

Who will be the new coach of Las Águilas?

It’s unclear who will be in América’s dugout from now on, although reports suggest that the interim coach could be Gilberto Adame, who was part of Solari’s coaching staff although he was placed there by Santiago Baños.
