Club América fell short on their aspirations of achieving one of the biggest comebacks in Liga MX history, as at the middle of the season they were standing last and thanks to Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, they were two games away from winning a new Liga MX title.

But it was CF Pachuca who prevented them from fulfilling the feat, as Los Tuzos, who were leaders of Clausura 2022, showed why they were the most consistent team throughout the season, as they managed to beat Las Águilas 4-1 in the aggregate.

Although América were able to tie the first game of the series, for the second leg, they couldn’t stop Pachuca’s offense, as it only took 13 minutes for them to open the score, thanks to a goal by Romario Ibarra. Ibarra also scored the third goal of the game and Erick Sánchez scored the other goal.

Now that the season is over for Las Águilas, one of the lingering questions that América will have to answer shortly is the future of Fernando Ortíz, as he was named interim coach for Clausura 2022, but they haven’t confirmed that he’ll stay for Apertura 2022.

Emilio Azcárraga already took a decision

Emilio Azcárraga, owner of Club América, knows that the arrival of Fernando Ortíz to the Azulcrema dugout was the best decision that they could make to get Las Águilas back on track after the bad start they had in Clausura 2022.

That’s why, according to reports from TUDN, Azcárraga has decided to confirm Fernando Ortíz as the new coach of Club América, this time officially, for at least another season, as he knows that “El Tano” can do a better job once he has a full season, including preseason, with the team.

His confirmation as Las Águilas’s coach not only reaffirms his presence in América for Apertura 2022 and the good job he did during this season, but also that he will have the option to decide who are the players that will arrive at Club América over the summer.

Are they looking for reinforcements?

The Argentine coach knows that even if he found a good lineup, there still a few positions that he needs to strengthen for Apertura 2022, especially a new forward that can score consistently and a center back that isn’t involved in several mistakes.
