Los Tuzos put an end to the fairytale that Las Águilas were living since Fernando “Tano” Ortíz took over the team in week 9 of the regular season, as they hadn’t lost since then, winning seven games and tying four more, including the first game of the series.

In Club América, they were hoping that the strength that Las Águilas showed since Ortíz replaced Santiago Solari was going to be enough for them to reach the final, but the Azulcremas never found a way to break Pachuca’s defense.

Now that the elimination consummated, Club América need to focus in the 2022-23 Liga MX Season, as they know that even if Ortíz was able to get them back on track, there’s a few players that don’t have the level to play in a club like América.

Who are the players that can leave Club América?

One of the things that hurt most Club América during the season and especially in the second leg of the semifinals, was the lack of quality players on the bench, that could chance the course of the game, as it was evidenced by Pachuca.

That’s why Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are looking to do a locker room cleanout, as they know that new players are needed, but for that to happen, they first need to part ways with the ones that didn’t contribute the last year.

The first player on the list is Miguel Layún, who only played nine games, four of them as a starter, during Clausura 2022. The former Mexico international showed that his level is far from what América needs to return to the top pages of Liga MX.

Who are the other two players that won’t return to América?

Even if Roger Martínez found a second wind when Ortíz arrived at Las Águilas, the performances that he’s had during the past year shows that he can’t be playing at América anymore, as well as Mauro Lainez, who disappeared once Solari was sacked.
