Club América couldn’t achieve the feat and were eliminated in the semifinals of Clausura 2022 by CF Pachuca, who were the leaders of Liga MX in the regular season and beat 3-0 Las Águilas in the second leg after tying 1-1 in the first game of the series.

They don't feel the colors and the fans demand their departure from Club América. Who are they?

Although the Azulcremas were close to open the score at the start of the first half thanks to a mistake made by Pachuca defenders, who left the ball in Diego Valdés’s feet just outside the box, the good colocation of Óscar Ustari prevented the Chilean striker from opening the score sheet.

But once Los Tuzos were able to establish their conditions, there wasn’t much left to do for Las Águilas, who were down on the score after only 13 minutes, thanks to a goal scored by Romario Ibarra. From then on, América tried, but couldn’t find Ustari’s goal.

Before the first half ended, when América looked more dangerous, a ’Golazo’ by Erick Sánchez from outside the box put an end to Las Águilas’s aspirations. As if that wasn’t enough, Ibarra scored a brace at 66’ that sealed the game.

Santiago Baños will leave América?

The elimination of Las Águilas from Clausura 2022 could unchain a series of departures from Club América, starting with Santiago Baños, sporting president of the Azulcremas, as his last hope to remain in América was to win Clausura 2022.

Since he arrived in El Nido, América has won just one title, back in 2018, and the drought keeps growing, given that they now have five years without a single championship, as they also lost the final of the CONCACAF Champions League against Monterrey last year.

But the lack of titles is just the tip of the iceberg, as he was responsible for the signing of Santiago Solari, who had the worst start for América in over 60 years, as well as the fact that he couldn’t sign several quality players that could have helped América have a different outcome.

Azcárraga has a replacement for him in mind

According to reports from TUDN, Emilio Azcárraga is considering parting ways with Baños after the new failure on his stint, and already has a replacement for him, as he’s been in conversations with Daniel “Ruso” Brailovsky to assume Baños’s position in América.
