After a good start on Clausura 2022, where they earned 13 points after six games, Cruz Azul’s performances have been irregular, as they’ve managed to earn points against some of the best teams in Liga MX but also lost against teams on the bottom part of the table.

Part of the reason why they couldn’t be more constant throughout the season is the tight schedule they had to face, as they were participating in both Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions League, which made them play two games per week since February.

Alongside the schedule, the injuries also diminished the roster, as they didn’t something they haven’t fully recovered from, as Sebastián Jurado remains as the starting goalkeeper and there’s no date for the return of José de Jesús Corona.

One last reason for the shifting results they’ve gathered in Clausura 2022 is the change that La Máquina structure suffered after six rounds, as Álvaro Dávila, who backed Juan Reynoso up, was replaced by Jaime Ordiales, who doesn’t like the Peruvian coach.

Some players don’t want Reynoso in the locker room

After the 1-0 defeat in Estadio Azteca against Atlético San Luis, it was evident a new problem for Cruz Azul, as not all the players are on the same page than Juan Reynoso and the way he coaches, as it has taken away opportunities for them.

According to the reports of sports journalist Javier Alarcón, there locker room has split into two groups, the ones that back Reynoso, like Uriel Antuna, Ignacio Rivero, Sebastián Jurado, Julio César Domínguez and Pablo Aguilar, and the group that feel like Reynoso has restrained them.

Given the rotations that Reynoso has done throughout the season due to the schedule and the injuries, some players feel like they haven’t had enough opportunities, which has diminished their performances in recent games, like Erik Lira, Alejandro Mayorga and Adrián Aldrete, among others.

Will Reynoso stay in Cruz Azul?

Although the Peruvian coach is under contract with Cruz Azul until December, Jaime Ordiales is already looking for a new coach, as he intends to part ways with Reynoso when Clausura 2022 is over, unless La Máquina overcomes their problems and wins a new Liga MX title.
