Estadio Azteca has become one of Cruz Azul’s biggest enemies in recent weeks, as they haven’t won a game on their home since the round 12 of Clausura 2022, when La Máquina beat Atlas by the minimum. Since then, they have two defeats and one draw.
More Cruz Azul news:
La Máquina has lost vital point on the last part of the regular season and have fell to the sixth place of Clausura 2022 after being in the top four for several weeks. Now, with just one more game to be played, they have few chances of returning to the places that grant direct accessto Liguilla.
The 1-0 defeat against Atlético San Luis on Sunday evening for the round 16 of Clausura 2022 was the only thing left missing for Juan Reynoso to earn the enmity of the stands, as after the game ended, Cruz Azul followers started to chant “Fuera, Reynoso!” to show their unhappiness.
Since Álvaro Dávila left Cruz Azul and was replaced by Jaime Ordiales, things have grown tenser between La Máquina management and the Peruvian coach, which explains the several reports questioning his continuity, as well as the poor results that Los Cementeros have earned ever since.
Will he continue in Cruz Azul?
On the press conference after the game, Juan Reynoso agreed that that was not the result they were expecting, but that they still have one more game to try to access Liguilla directly, although the game is against Club América, the strongest team at the moment.
Reynoso knows that if they don’t win, they will have to ensure their place in the quarterfinals via Repechaje and given that Liguilla is often felt like a new tournament, they still have chances of winning a new title.
The Peruvian coach didn’t want to delve into his continuity, as he said that the decision will be taken by Cruz Azul’s management, and that his time will come to an end when he feels like he’s restraining the team instead of helping them.
Is Cruz Azul looking to replace him?
Several reports suggest that Jaime Ordiales is already in conversations with a few candidates, as he’s just waiting for Clausura 2022 to finish to part ways with Reynoso. Among the names that have been linked to Cruz Azul are Hugo Sánchez, Matías Almeyda and in most recent days Nicolás Larcamón.
