Cruz Azul have become one of the most irregular teams in the last part of the regular season of Clausura 2022, as they have lost the chance of directly accessing Liguilla after winning just two of their last five games, including the 1-0 defeat against Atlético San Luis.

Atlético San Luis vs Cruz Azul: Did La Máquina make a bad decision on this player?

If that wasn’t enough, the elimination of La Máquina by Pumas in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League by a 2-1 aggregate thanks to Los Universitarios’ victory on the first leg, has Juan Reynoso’s future in Cruz Azul hanging by a thread.

It doesn’t matter if he was the coach that made Cruz Azul Liga MX champions once again after a 23-year drought, as Jaime Ordiales, La Máquina’s sporting director, is looking for an excuse to part ways with the Peruvian coach.

According to reports, Ordiales is already looking for candidates to replace Reynoso once Cruz Azul’s participation in Clausura 2022 is over, as he demanded that La Máquina won at least one title in the season to let Reynoso keep his job, something that seems difficult with the recent results.

Hugo Sánchez, in conversations to arrive at Cruz Azul

Even if he hasn’t coached a single team since parted ways with CF Pachuca in 2012, Hugo Sánchez has remained involved in the soccer industry, as he now is a TV analyst for ESPN, although he doesn’t close the door to returning to coach.

According to reports from Récord, a Mexican media outlet, La Máquina are seriously considering him as the successor of Juan Reynoso and already made the former Real Madrid striker an offer to become their coach for the 2022-23 season.

Sánchez was in conversations with Cruz Azul to coached them prior the start of Clausura 2021, when La Máquina started looking for a coach after Robert Dante Siboldi resigned, and even if there was a misunderstanding that in the end made Cruz Azul sign Reynoso instead of him, Ordiales is willing to leave that in the past.

He wouldn’t arrive alone

According to Sánchez’s himself, he was the one that helped Carlos Vela return to El Tri after he was blacklisted for the first time. Since then, they have a great relationship, which could help Cruz Azul to sign one of the best Mexican players in the past years.
