Chivas will face Pumas UNAM in Repechaje after ending the regular season with 26 points and standing sixth, thanks to the 12 points earned in the last four games of Clausura 2022, after the arrival of Ricardo Cadena in El Rebaño’s dugout.

Chivas de Guadalajara: Decision with Marcelo Leaño will define Ricardo Cadena's future

Cadena, who was coaching CD Tapatío, Chivas reserves team, has helped El Rebaño to become a protagonist team in the last quarter of the season, something that Marcelo Michel Leaño couldn’t do during the 13 games he coached in Clausura 2022.

But not even the good performances that Chivas have had since Cadena was promoted to interim coach of the first team have earned him the chance of remaining in El Rebaño’s dugout, as Ricardo Peláez and Amaury Vergara are still looking for a new coach that has more experience.

According to reports from El Francotirador from Diario Récord, Chivas already started conversations with Marcelo Bielsa, as the Argentine coach is still available after parting ways with Premier League side Leeds United at the end of February.

Bielsa will arrive with new players

“El Loco” Bielsa is known for establishing projects around young players, something he already did in Mexico during his stint with Atlas and Club América in the 90s, where he boosted the careers of players like Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Rafael Márquez, Pavel Pardo and Jared Borgetti, among others.

That’s why if Chivas convince him to become their next coach, not only he’ll request that El Rebaño invests on their academy teams, as it will be the foundation of the team for the future, but also to acquire at least three young players that already proved themselves in Liga MX.

The first player that could arrive at Chivas with Bielsa is Israel Reyes from Club Puebla, as the polyvalent defender can play as right-back, center back or even defensive midfielder, making him one of the best defenders in Liga MX with only 21 years.

Who are the other two players that will join Chivas?

The Santos Laguna midfielder Jordan Carrillo has said in the past that growing up, he was a Chivas supporter, and now that he’s one of the Mexican Gems, Bielsa could convince him of joining El Rebaño. Finally, the Argentine coach would also pursue the addition of Eduardo “Mudo” Aguirre, given the lack of strikers that Chivas currently have.
