Since Matías Almeyda left Chivas at the end of the 2017-18 season, El Rebaño Sagrado haven’t been able to win a single title, and instead of contending for Liga MX, they’ve been battling to have a place in Repechaje.

Ricardo Cadena won’t stay long; this is the new coach that will arrive at Chivas

But with Marcelo Michel Leaño, El Rebaño hit bottom, as they had minimum chances of playing Liguilla in Clausura 2022, not only because of the poor results, but also because the team didn’t have a clear idea to follow, and they lost at least eight points on the last minutes of the games.

Now that Amaury Vergara finally decided to part ways with him after 13 rounds of the current season, El Rebaño Sagrado were able to win on their visit to Cruz Azul thanks to the basic concepts that Ricardo Cadena established in the few days that he had to train with the first team.

But even if they showed an improvement from the performances they had with Michel Leaño, Vergara knows that what Chivas needs is a proven coach that can help them become contenders once again, and who is better than Almeyda, who gave them five titles in three years.

Almeyda can sign with Chivas, but wants this striker

After Chivas announced that they have parted ways with Michel Leaño, it only took Matías Almeyda a few days to present his resignation letter to MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, the team he’s coached since the 2019 season.

On Monday, the Quakes announced that Almeyda was leaving the team after three and a half years coaching them, opening the door for his arrival at Chivas now that all the parties involved are available to negotiate.

But in order for him to return to El Rebaño Sagrado, Almeyda has requested that Chivas signs Eduardo “Chofis” López, as he knows that Chivas are in need of a striker and given the good relationship that he has with “Chofis”, he could become the answer to Chivas’ problems.

How much will it cost to sign him?

Luckily for Amaury Vergara and Chivas, the 27-year-old forward still belongs to El Rebaño Sagrado, as he is under contract with them. López is on a loan with San José until June and given that Almeyda can become their coach for the next season, “Chofis” will be back on time to join Chivas once again.
