Jorge Sánchez will leave Club América and his replacement will cost $5 million

On Friday morning, Las Águilas announced that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz will remain as Club América coach for at least Apertura 2022, although this time he will be the official coach and not the interim, title he held since Santiago Solari was sacked, on week 8 of the past season.

Ortíz knows that is vital to sign a striker that can contribute every game, unlike what Henry Martín and Federico Viñas did throughout the regular season, as they were able to score only four goals between the two of them, which is why he has targeted a new striker.

Luis Suárez won’t arrive at Club América

Although Emilio Azcárraga is still trying to convince Luis Suárez to join Las Águilas, the Uruguayan striker has been clear about his desire of remain in Europe, at least until after the World Cup, closing the door to Club América.

Ortíz knows about this and is already looking for a different option, and according to reports from sports journalist César Luis Merlo, the selected striker is Gustavo del Prete, who currently plays for Argentine side Estudiantes de La Plata.

The 25-year-old Argentine striker currently has a market value of $4 million, a considerable sum if taken into consideration that he only scored four goals in the 2021-22 season. Del Prete has on his favor the outstanding production that he had during his stint with Uruguayan side Montevideo City Troque, where he scored 39 goals in 60 games.
