Carlos Vela is one of the best Mexican active players in the world, and even if he decided to retire from Mexico National Team at just 32 years, he still has two or three more years playing at a high level, something he’s showed since he arrived in MLS with Los Angeles FC.

Right after he announced his retirement from El Tri, Vela debuted in the 2022 MLS Season, the last one he’ll play for LAFC under his current contract, scoring a hat-trick, showing that he still has a lot to give for any team that wants to acquire him.

And given the current situation in which Club América currently are, an addition of the level of Carlos Vela would not only win them back the sympathy of their followers but will also be a massive improvement for their roster and the help they need to end the crisis in which they are.

Carlos Vela would consider arriving in América for two reasons: if they manage to pay him a similar salary than what he currently earns in LAFC, and for the dislike he feels towards Chivas, as he left the institution against Jorge Vergara’s will, who tried to prevent his departure to Europe.

What would it take Club América to acquire Vela?

According to reports, Carlos Vela is playing his last semester with the Black & Gold, as his contract expires over the summer, which allows him to start negotiating his arrival to any team he likes as a free agent.

Vela has said in the past that he would like to stay in LAFC, but what’s keeping him from renewing is the salary, as he wants to keep earning the same, but LAFC are trying to lower his salary. According to reports, he’d consider moving to Miami or returning to Europe, although a good offer from Liga MX could convince him to return to Mexico.

Even if América won’t have to pay for his economic rights, Carlos Vela is looking for a similar contract if not higher, than the one he currently has with LAFC, where he earned close to $6.5 million per season during the previous four years, as he now earns $4.5 million.

What did he say about Chivas?

Vela’s dislike towards Chivas is not new, as he had to force his departure from Chivas academy team when he was contacted by Arsenal, given that Jorge Vergara refused to sell him as he knew of the talent he had. Since then, Vela hasn’t been close to the team that saw him grow.

He has stated multiple times that Chivas are the least of his priorities, and he even claimed that the only way in which he would watch a Chivas match was if there wasn’t anything else on TV, but he’d rather watch a basketball game where LeBron James is playing instead of a Chivas game.
