Given the experience he has both in Liga MX and with Mexico National Team, Rogelio Funes Mori has been linked in recent weeks to Club América, as Las Águilas are looking for a striker to replace Henry Martín, who hasn’t contributed on the opportunities he’s had.

The secret of Fernando Ortíz to make Club América unstoppable

Since his arrival in Liga MX in 2015, Funes Mori has played only for CF Monterrey. In the seven seasons he’s been in Mexican soccer, “El Mellizo” has played a total of 273 games, where he’s scored 173 goals and has assisted 34 times.

On the same span of time, Henry Martín has played 255 games, 161 of them with Club América and 94 with Xolos de Tijuana, but his numbers are far from what Funes Mori has done, as Martín has scored 67 goals and assisted on 33 occasions.

Even if Funes Mori’s performances have diminished in the last year, he’s still one of the top scorers in Liga MX, which is why he could be a great addition for Las Águilas. Some reports have suggested that the reason why he’s not playing anymore with Rayados is because he already has a deal with América.

Will he arrive at Club América?

The same reports said that the reason behind his absence is to prevent a new injury that could break the agreement the Mexico international already has with Los Azulcremas, but the truth is that he doesn’t plan on leaving Monterrey, at least not until 2024, when his contract expires.

According to reports from sports journalist Felipe Galindo, Funes Mori hasn’t fully recovered from the sprain that he suffered in the ninth round of Clausura 2022, which has kept him out of the pitches for seven games, including the defeat against Pumas on the past weekend.

As if that wasn’t enough, Monterrey’s medical staff informed that he’s been having a constant pain on one of his knees, which is why he’ll have to go through an arthroscopy on April 20 that will keep him out of the pitches for at least two weeks more.

Who is the goalkeeper that América wants?

According to MedioTiempo, Las Águilas are looking for a striker that already plays in Liga MX, the Argentine forward Germán Berterame, who currently plays for Atlético San Luis. Berterame has scored four goals and has assisted two times in Clausura 2022.
