Even if Chivas were able to beat Santos Laguna in the game played in Estadio Akron on Saturday night with a lone goal of José Juan Macías, the team didn’t have many options in the offensive side and had to rely in individualities to get the victory.
Jorge Vergara was planning on selling Chivas, but now Amaury Vergara is refusing to do it
Chivas hasn’t showed a sign of improvement after nine games of Clausura 2022, and even if they haven’t lost in consecutive games, they still have a long way to go until they can be considered to have a solid project that place them as Liga MX contenders.
The recent results have earned Marcelo Michel Leaño the possibility of maintaining his job for a few more weeks, as they still are placed in Repechaje spots and have distanced from the bottom of the table, although the lack of ideas on the pitch is more than obvious.
It’s probable that if Michel Leaño was coaching any other team, he’d already be jobless, as seven other Liga MX teams have sacked their coaches even if some of them had a better or similar performance than the one Chivas are having. But reports suggest that Amaury Vergara will wait until the end of the season to take a decision.
There are rumors suggesting that Vergara doesn’t realize the crisis in which Chivas currently is going through, as Michel Leaño has learned how to talk to him, praising his ego, although one of the main reasons has to do with money.
Michel Leaño’s family has a history with Mexican soccer and reports suggest that they lend money to Amaury Vergara and Chivas to keep the club going after the $50 million investment they had a couple of years back in players that haven’t showed why they arrived in Chivas.
A part of the money that Amaury received was to retain José Juan Macías, who scored the goal that give both Chivas and Michel Leaño room to breathe. It’s worth mentioning that Macías hadn’t score a single goal in over a year, and even if he’s still adapting to El Rebaño, he was able to finally show why he was considered to become the future striker of El Tri.
Michel Leaño arrived in Chivas as an interim coach after Vergara sacked José Manuel Vucetich last season, but then guaranteed his stay in El Rebaño’s dugout before Clausura 2022 started. He’s coached a total of 18 games, winning five of them, tying six more and losing the remainder seven.
