Club América arrived at the semifinals surprising everyone after they started the season at the bottom of the table and without a clear idea to follow, something that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz was able to change in the span of nine games in the regular season.

Will the Azulcrema defeat in Pachuca vs Club América be the end of Santiago Baños?

But they couldn’t keep up with the good streak once they faced CF Pachuca, as Los Tuzos, who were leaders of Clausura 2022 for most of the season, saved a draw from Estadio Azteca in the first leg and then comfortably beat 3-0 Las Águilas in the second leg of the game.

But even if they couldn’t complete the feat, the arrival of Fernando Ortíz at the dugout turned out to be the best decision for Las Águilas, something that both Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños know, which is why they already decide to keep him on the dugout for at least another season.

Although Fernando Ortíz and Club América showed what they are capable of and will be more prepared once they have a full preseason together, not every player is willing to stay for next season to learn how far can they go in Apertura 2022.

Who is the player that wants to leave América?

When Fernando Ortíz took over the team once they decided to part ways with Santiago Solari, one of the first things that he do was to change the formation with which Las Águilas used to play, giving most of the players a chance of playing in the starting XI before deciding who were going to be on his lineup.

The only player in the roster that didn’t get the chance of playing a game was Óscar Jiménez, the second goalkeeper of Las Águilas, who knows that even if Ochoa’s contract is coming to an end, it looks difficult that he’ll have the opportunity of starting.

That’s why he already requested his transfer once the summer transfer window opens, as he is looking for more playing time given that he already was a starter in Liga MX. For América, it is the perfect opportunity to earn back some money, as Jiménez will become a free agent in December.

Which teams can acquire him?

According to reports from Pasión Águila, although he was linked to teams like FC Juárez and CD Toluca, given that Los Diablos Rojos already signed Thiago Volpi and that Bravos doesn’t even have a coach, his next destination could be Pumas, as they are looking for a goalkeeper after the departure of Alfredo Talavera.
