The crisis in which Club América currently is doesn’t seem to have an end soon, as even without Santiago Solari on the bench they were able to win their first match with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz as interim coach and remained lasts in Liga MX with only six points after nine rounds.
Santiago Solari left Club América but he could still keep causing them trouble
On their visit to CF Monterrey, who also sacked their coach on the previous week, they couldn’t maintain the partial victory that Álvaro Fidalgo gave them, as Joel Campbell and Rogelio Funes Mori orchestrated the comeback of Rayados and sank Las Águilas even more in Clausura 2022.
Guillermo Ochoa knows that things can’t stay like this, even if he’s been involved in several mistakes that have costed Las Águilas goals against them and even points that could have helped them leave the bottom of the table, which is why he knows the coach that could help them return to the winning path.
Ochoa could condition his stay in América if they don’t sign Ricardo La Volpe, as he’s on his last year of his contract and hasn’t started negotiating his renewal, given that he’s not sure about wanting to stay in a place where they’re not contending for anything.
Even if América currently has “Tano” Ortíz as their interim coach, they’re still considering signing a different coach at least until the end of the season, and La Volpe could be that coach, as he knows how things work in América.
Ochoa trusts the Argentine coach given that he was the one that took him to his first World Cup and because he’s done a good job with Las Águilas in the past, especially with the opportunities that he gave to young players, which is why he could convince Baños and Azcárraga to hire him as the next coach.
Ochoa is already considering leaving Club América after his contract expires, not only for the current situation but also because he’s looking for a two-year extension with option for adding a third year and Las Águilas are only offering him a one-year deal.
And if La Volpe doesn’t arrive, he could decide leaving El Nido for good and join the MLS, as he already has three different teams interested in him: Austin FC, Charlotte FC and Houston Dynamo, although his dream is to finish his career playing for Club América.
