Since Clausura 2022 started, Club América hasn’t been able to find the needed regularity that a team like Las Águilas need in order to be on the top spots of the table, something they’re far from reaching, as they currently stand second to last.
Giovani dos Santos keeps training in Club América facilities and could return with Las Águilas
They’ve won just one game so far, after 10 rounds of Clausura 2022, tying four more games resulting in the 7 points they have now, which is why Emilio Azcárraga decided to sack Santiago Solari after eight games, where he left Las Águilas as the worst team of the tournament.
Since then, América has lost a game and tied another one, although the team hasn’t showed much improvement with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz on the dugout, as he’s the interim coach of Las Águilas until Azcárraga decides to hire a new coach.
Sergio “Checo” Pérez, F1 driver, is an avid fan of Club América, so much that he decided to invest in a Mexican startup, Kavak, who sponsors Las Águilas, and when he was asked who is the coach that he’d like to see in América, he promptly answered that Marcelo Bielsa.
Given that “Checo” Pérez is sponsoring Las Águilas, he could push his case to convince Emilio Azcárraga to hire Marcelo Bielsa, as “El Loco” is currently without a job and has stated that he wants to continue his coaching career.
Bielsa could arrive to El Nido as he already knows Liga MX and Club América, team that he coached back in the 90s, when he established one of the best generations of Mexican players that included Rafael Márquez, Daniel Osorno, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, and Oswaldo Sánchez.
Reports suggest that “El Loco” Bielsa would ask complete freedom to hire the players he feels fit the most the needs of Las Águilas, something that the previous coaches haven’t been able to do, given that Santiago Baños has stopped some negotiations.
He would also ask to oversee the academy teams, as he’s known for being involved in the formative process of the players that will eventually debut in the senior squad, something he already did in Mexico once, with both Club América and Atlas.
