Santiago Solari’s obsession with Spanish players could end up with the signing of this former Real Madrid player
So far, Club América has signed Álvaro Fidalgo and Jorge Meré as the only Spanish players in the roster.
It’s no surprise to say that, since Santiago Solari arrived in Club América, Las Águilas have been linked to multiple Spanish players, given Solari’s past as Real Madrid player and coach, although they’ve only been able to sign two: longtime friends Álvaro Fidalgo and Jorge Meré.
But in recent days, Las Águilas have been linked to a couple of Cádiz CF players, especially right-winger Álvaro Jiménez, who Solari knows well as he coached him during his stint as Real Madrid Castilla manager.
Although Jiménez could never establish himself in Real Madrid’s senior team, he’s been a productive player in Spanish soccer, where he’s played for several teams, and could help Club América to fill the spot that Solari urgently needs to complete the roster, as the transfer window closes in just one week.
Álvaro Jiménez numbers with Cádiz CF
The 26-year-old Spanish right-winger joined Cádiz CF this season out of Albacete Balompié, from Spanish third flight, after the team was relegated. Since his arrival in Nuevo Mirandilla, Jiménez hasn’t been part of Sergio González roster, as he’s only started on one game and played as a substitute in 8 more. His current market value is set at $680,000.
