Out of the four biggest Liga MX teams, Cruz Azul seems to be the only one doing the right thing, as they currently stand third in Clausura MX as a result of four victories, one draw and one defeat. But La Máquina not only plays well, as they also made the right additions during the preseason.

Uriel Antuna has showed that the problem was Chivas, not him, and Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez keeps demonstrating why he should be considered by Martino and even moving to Europe in the near future. But on the match against Toluca, where Cruz Azul comfortably beat 4-1 Toluca, the highlight was another player.

For the first time in five months, Santiago Giménez was able to score again, as his teammates gave him the ball when the referee called a penalty for Cruz Azul. After scoring the 3-1 via penalty kick, Giménez broke out of his drought and just three minutes later he scored his second goal of the game.

Will he be part of the final El Tri squad?

Although “Chaquito” Giménez is on the mix to be the third striker on Gerardo Martino’s roster, his lack of goals kept him away from Mexico National Team. But if he keeps up with the good performances, he might be able to step up on the hierarchy, as neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín have proved to be a reliable complement for Raúl Jiménez.
