Club América couldn’t make it to the final of Clausura 2022 as they were eliminated in semifinals by CF Pachuca, who are looking to win their seventh Liga MX title, although they will have to beat Atlas FC before winning a new championship.

Jorge Sánchez could leave Club América for Apertura 2022 as they grew tired of his mistakes

Las Águilas fell two games short on fulfilling the feat of winning a new Liga MX title after spending half of the season at the bottom of the table, as Santiago Solari never found the right way to make the team work together and only managed to win one game and tie three more in eight weeks.

Fernando “Tano” Ortíz was named interim coach for the remainder of the season and even if he lost his debut game, he rapidly found a way to connect with the team and help them leave the bottom of the table, as they had 10 straight games without a defeat.

Reports inform that Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños have decided to name Ortíz as the new coach of América, which is why he’s already looking for new additions to the team, as there are a few positions to strengthen if they want to have a worthy participation next season.

Furch, one of the priorities for Ortíz

Fernando Ortíz knows that one of the things that Las Águilas lacked throughout the season was a striker that could score consistently, as neither Henry Martín nor Federico Viñas were able to find the net regularly, with both strikers scoring four goals overall.

According to reports from W Deportes Radio, Club América are interested in acquiring Julio Furch from Atlas FC, and the Argentine striker already made a decision about leaving the Rojinegros after the final against Pachuca.

Furch will consider leaving Atlas and listen to offers from different clubs, including Club América, only if Atlas doesn’t win the final, as he wants to play the Campeón de Campeones and CONCACAF Champions League with the Rojinegros.

Can América convince him to join them?

One of the things that Las Águilas can’t offer Furch is playing an international tournament, something that Atlas will do no matter the result in the final as they were champions last season, but they can offer him a higher salary and a bigger showcase for him to arrive at Mexico National Team, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino is interested in calling him up once he receives his naturalization letter.
