With the 2-1 defeat against Santos Laguna in Estadio Azteca on Sunday night, Cruz Azul left on the pitch the tree easiest point of his schedule, at least for the upcoming three weeks, given that they’ll have to play against the top three teams of Liga MX as well as the quarterfinals of CONCACAF Champions League.

After Cruz Azul couldn’t beat Santos, these two players want to leave La Máquina

Juan Reynoso wasn’t happy with the defeat, and although the team owned the possession of the ball for most of the game and had multiple plays that Carlos Acevedo managed to save, he knew that there was one responsible for the lack of success of La Máquina.

In press conference, Reynoso said that he was the one to blame for the result, as he didn’t make the right substitutions when they were needed, although he also praised Santos for their performance and managing to fin the game-winning goal on the last seconds of the game.

Reynoso also said that he expects that the crowd and Cruz Azul followers change their behavior towards Brayan Angulo, as he is giving his best and he’s a professional trying to do his job, and that he expects that the booing against the Ecuadorian striker doesn’t repeat.

Will Brayan Angulo leave Cruz Azul?

The 26-year-old striker is on the last six months of his contract with La Máquina. It’s yet to be seen if he will renew with Cruz Azul, although reports suggest they’re already negotiating a contract extension. The main thing that’s keeping him from signing is his salary, as he doesn’t want to lower it but La Máquina feels like they’re currently paying him too much.

What’s in store for La Máquina?

Cruz Azul has a tight schedule for the next month before the FIFA match window break. On Wednesday, they will visit Tigres, who currently have won five straight games and stand third, just one point away from current Liga MX leader Club Puebla.

La Franja will be their next match, as the “Larcaboys” will visit Estadio Azteca on Saturday, team that currently is the only undefeated club in Clausura 2022. Cruz Azul then will receive CF Montréal in the first leg of the quarterfinals of CONCACAF Champions League before facing Pumas UNAM three days later in Estadio Azteca.

After the Pumas game, Los Cementeros will travel to Canada to face the second leg of the quarterfinals before returning to Mexico to visit CF Pachuca, who currently stand second in Clausura 2022, tied in points with Tigres but with better goal difference.
