Santos Laguna arrived in Estadio Azteca on Sunday night looking for a miracle, given that they hadn’t win a single game in Clausura 2022 and had just sacked their coach, Pedro Caixinha, given the elimination against CF Montreal in the round of 16 of CONCACAF Champions League.

But fortune was on their side, and they were able to beat Cruz Azul by a 2-1 score with a last-minute goal of Diego Medina, whose shot was slightly deflected by Pablo Aguilar, leaving José de Jesús Corona out of the play, and giving the three points to the visitors.

Cruz Azul not only lost against the team standing last in Liga MX table, but also lost the opportunity of rise to the second position of Clausura 2022, as both Pachuca and Tigres have 16 points and La Máquina stayed in fourth place with 13.

Juan Reynoso was not happy with the performance of La Máquina, especially after the Sunday night game marked a journey of 7 games in 21 days, a span of time in which La Máquina can’t commit this kind of mistakes, as they will easily lose their good streak if they keep happening.

What decisions will Reynoso make?

The Peruvian coach knows that Pablo Aguilar can’t play 90 minutes every single game, giving his age and the conditions in which Cruz Azul plays, which is why Reynoso will start rotating their defenders, especially after Aguilar informed that he doesn’t plan on renewing his contract with La Máquina.

The other player that had trouble connecting with both his teammates and the crown is Brayan Angulo, as he was booed when he was substituted in the second half. Reynoso has yet to find a striker that can complement Uriel Antuna and Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez, which is why he’s going to give Santiago Giménez more opportunities from now on.

Will Angulo decide to leave?

The 26-year-old Ecuadorian striker finishes his contract at the end of the season, and although he’s negotiating his renewal, the thing that’s stopping him from signing his contract extension is his salary, as Cruz Azul wants to reduce it but Angulo refuses to accept any less.
