Since Tigres acquired André-Pierre Gignac in 2015, they’ve tried to replicate the success they had with the French striker. Since then, they’ve acquired multiple players that haven’t been up to the expected standards.

Bayern Munich to play this Liga MX team in the summer

From the Nigerian forward Ikechukwu Uche, to Andy Delort and Timothée Kolodziejczak, Tigres failed to acquire a player with similar conditions and that was as successful as Gignac, until they crossed paths with Florian Thauvin.

His arrival in Liga MX was even more impressive because he left European soccer on his prime, three years after he won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first player to arrive in Mexican soccer as an active World Cup champion.

Although he’s had a hard time adapting to the speed and tactical differences of Mexican soccer, he finally has established himself as an essential player in Miguel “Piojo” Herrera starting XI, and he scored his first goal of the season on the match against FC Juárez, on their 3-2 victory against Bravos.

But now, a team could make him return to European soccer with the promise of playing in Champions League next season, the perfect showcase to make his case to return to France National Team in a World Cup year.

Which team is after Florian Thauvin?

Reports suggest that Serie A side SS Napoli is looking for a right-winger, given that they will lose Lorenzo Insigne after the season is over, as Il Capitano will join MLS side Toronto FC. But the Azzurri can also see Hirving Lozano leave Napoli, as he’s been followed by a few teams in Spain and England.

Could he leave Tigres after Clausura 2022 ends?

The 29-year-old right-winger is under contract with Los Felinos until 2026, although he doesn’t have a release clause on his contract that could prevent him from negotiating his departure. It’s true that his current market value is far from the $55 million he was valued in 2018, but if Napoli wants to acquire him, they will have to pay Tigres at least $15.5 million.
