After the comfortable 4-1 victory over Toluca in Liga MX last weekend, Cruz Azul established themselves as the best out of “The Big 4” Liga MX teams in Clausura 2022, as they currently stand third with 13 points, just one behind Club Puebla, who currently are leading Liga MX.

Problems still follow Cruz Azul, as they’re on the verge of losing two players

Uriel Antuna and Santiago Giménez coincided on the pitch on the game against Toluca and could easily become one of the most dangerous trios of Liga MX if Carlos “Charly Rodríguez is added to the mix, as the three of them have scored 7 out of the 11 goals La Máquina has in Clausura 2022.

Now, as they get ready to face the second leg of the round of 16 of 2022 CONCACAF Champions League, it’s become evident that Santiago Giménez can open the right side of the pitch by having double coverage, giving Antuna and his speed the spaces needed to reach the penalty box, while “Charly” Rodríguez distributes the ball and creates dangerous plays.

Will they be on the pitch together again?

Reynoso wants to keep starting Brayan Angulo in Liga MX, at least until “Chaquito” Giménez gains his shape back, which is why he will start in CONCACAF Champions League for now and slowly earn minutes in Liga MX, substituting Angulo.

On the other hand, Reynoso has decided to sit Antuna for the game against Forge FC, given that he’s trying to give him rest while also helping Luis “Quick” Mendoza to gain regularity, as he was a personal request of the Peruvian coach for Apertura 2021, although he hasn’t had enough opportunities to prove himself.

Can they play together in El Tri?

Hopefully it won’t take long until Giménez returns to the starting XI of Juan Reynoso in Liga MX, which not only benefit the players and Cruz Azul, but also Mexico National Team, as “Charly” Rodríguez and Uriel Antuna have proven themselves on Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s roster.

Giménez is on the mix to be the third striker, although he hasn’t been called given that he hadn’t scored since August. But now that he broke his 5-month drought, if he keeps up with the good performances, Martino will consider him to be part of Mexico National Team instead of Henry Martín.
