It took Fernando “Tano” Ortíz a couple of weeks as the coach of Club América coach to grasp how things worked in Las Águilas and start to establish a different system to which the players were used to with Santiago Solari.

But now that he’s been coaching Las Águilas for over a month, it seems like the players are comfortable with his coaching style, as they’ve won two games and tied another of the four matches that Ortíz has coached them.

The Argentine coach will remain in Las Águilas dugout for the remainder of Clausura 2022, where he will try to help them play at least in Repechaje, as they’re currently just one point away from the spots that grant access to Liga MX playoffs.

And while doing that, he also wants to give young players a chance to gather experience in Mexico’s top flight, as he was coaching the U-20 squad before being promoted, especially since some of the players in the current roster haven’t been up to the expectation.

The Mexican Messi is ready to debut

Las Águilas have on their academy teams a player that has been named the Mexican Messi given the ease he has with the ball in the midfield, similar to what Messi showed during his youth years, and it seems like they’re ready to give him a chance in Liga MX.

The 18-year-old offensive midfielder Iker Moreno is currently playing with the U-18 squad of Las Águilas, although given his potential, Ortíz called him to be part of the first team on the friendly games they disputed over the FIFA match window.

The Argentine coach was impressed with his performances, which is why he gave Moreno his first call-up with the senior team for last weekend’s game against Necaxa, and even if he couldn’t debut given the tight game that Las Águilas had, his apparition in the roster is something worth to keep an eye on.

Las Águilas are already planning on signing him long-term

According to reports from W Deportes, Club América know about the potential that Iker Moreno has, which is why they already started negotiations with him to sign a long-term deal and promote him to the senior squad, just like the did a few years ago with Diego Lainez.
