It seems that Club América are finally leaving behind the worst start they’ve had in Liga MX in over 70 years, as Las Águilas have won two of their last four games, as well as drawing one more, unlike the first eight games of Clausura 2022, where they won just one game.

Club América already has their first addition for the 2022-23 Liga MX Season

It’s yet to be seen what happens with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, who took on the challenge and has answered as expectedly, doing more in four games from what Santiago Solari, who was sacked for the poor results, did in eight matches.

Reports suggest that “Tano” Ortíz will return to the U-20 squad, as he was coaching the academy team prior his naming as interim coach for the remainder of the season. But if the good performances keep coming, he should be considered to remain in Las Águilas dugout for Apertura 2022.

Even if he stays as Club América coach, he knows there’s still a lot to do to improve the squad, especially on the offense, as neither of the strikers that Las Águilas currently have, have been of help, especially Henry Martín, who has been irregular during his entire stint in América.

Martín, set to leave after Clausura 2022 ends

Santiago Baños, Club América chairman, oversaw the addition of Henry Martín back in 2018, when he first arrived to Las Águilas alongside Miguel Herrera, who knew Martín from his stint as Xolos de Tijuana head coach.

Herrera was the one that requested the arrival of the Mexican striker and given that Las Águilas are interested in acquiring Nicolás “Diente” López from Tigres to improve their attack, they’re planning on having a trade for the players.

“El Piojo” has always liked the playing style of Henry Martín and so far, has given “Diente” López few opportunities with Tigres even if he could be starter for any other team, as there’s no way he’s going to sit André-Pierre Gignac, which is what makes possible the trade.

Henry Martín’s numbers in Club América

The 29-year-old arrived in Club América during the winter transfer window of the 2017-18 Liga MX Season as part of a trade with Xolos that included him, Emanuel Aguilera and Joe Corona for the permanent move of Pablo Aguilar. In the 5 seasons he’s been with Las Águilas, Martín has played 160 games so far, scoring 53 goals and assisting 23 times.
