In a historic move, the league and the popular video game company announced today an exclusivity agreement for the eFootball video game, which will allow fans to play virtually with their idols from Liga MX clubs in a new global and virtual entertainment experience.

What does Konami get from Liga MX with this agreement?

Through this agreement, the popular video game brand, creator of Contra, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, will have access to players and stadiums in the league to take images, including 3D scans and motion capture, as well as faithful recreations of each Club's official uniforms

This agreement will come into effect from summer 2022, when players will begin to enjoy this all-new soccer video game platform from the makers of PES and Winning Eleven.

Access is planned to be completely free to play, and the company will offer the same Esports experience on console, PC and mobile devices.

Why did Konami bet on Liga MX?

What the video game brand is looking for with this strategy is to be able to unite Liga MX soccer fans in Mexico and the United States so that both audiences can enjoy a closer experience with their clubs.

In the words of Yuta Kose, president of KONAMI Digital Entertainment, Inc:

"We are proud to have LIGA BBVA MX as partners and the opportunity to bring our fans in Mexico and the United States closer to their favorite clubs through eFootball. As partners, we will work collaboratively with the league to deliver the best to our respective audiences. From the level of in-game polish and representation of the league with official kits and shields to the way fans will engage on and off the digital pitch, our goal is a fully immersive experience for all generations to enjoy."

For his part, Mikel Arriola, the president of Liga MX said that this agreement is a bid to try to push the league to higher levels of recognition and to seek to attract a larger audience to the tournament.

In addition, Arriola commented:

"This partnership will give us the possibility to meet with other audiences achieving a new level of rooting among the different generations of gamers and will also open windows of opportunity for the growth of the 18 Clubs in all aspects."
