Although neither the team nor the player commented officially on the issue, the Mexican press following the Rayados' trip to the United Arab Emirates confirmed the news about the player

César Montes infected with COVID-19 and not likely to play in Monterrey's debut at the FIFA Club World Cup

This day Monterrey shared photos on its social networks about the team's trip to the Club World Cup and fans were surprised not to see Montes with the squad, who it was later learned had tested positive for COVID-19.

The player had previously undergone an antigen test, which was negative, but when it came time for the PCR test, the player tested positive and was therefore unable to board the plane to the United Arab Emirates, although he is no longer infected with the virus.

It is expected that the player will take the test again today and if he tests negative, he will be able to join his team for his debut in the Club World Cup, although it is very likely that Montes will not be able to play that match

Why was the positive PCR test the reason why Cesar Montes did not travel to the Club World Cup?

To enter the United Arab Emirates, it is mandatory to have a negative result for coronavirus in a PCR test.

Unfortunately for "El Cachorro", this was not the case and he could not travel with Rogelio Funes Mori, Luis Romo, and Jesús Gallardo, who left after the Mexico vs Panama match.

César Montes' chances of making it to the Club World Cup

The player must undergo a PCR test and the result must be negative for him to be able to travel to the Arab Emirates this Friday with his teammate Joel Campbel

Campbel was also unable to travel earlier with the Rayados because he was in Jamaica playing for the Costa Rican national team in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.

Montes should have also made the trip last night along with his Monterrey teammates who also played the CONCACAF match against Panama, but due to the positive result, the player was unable to start the trip

For now, it is very difficult for both players to make their debuts with their team in the competition, but if everything goes well, they could be with Rayados for the next match
