Defenders Carlos Salcedo and César Montes were withdrawn from the Mexican National Team, for the game against Honduras, after participating in the Concacaf Nations League.

“The Sports General Directorate informs that the players César Montes and Carlos Salcedo have concluded their concentration with the Mexican National Team which is in Denver, Colorado. Both players have already returned to our country ”, informed the Mexican National Team, through a statement.

Carlos Salcedo participated in the final against the United States, of the Nations League and he was the one who caused the penalty that became the winning goal for the Stars and Stripes team. The central defender didn't want to put on the second-place medal at the award ceremony.

César Montes had no activity with the Mexican National Team, in the Nations League and it was expected that he would have activity in the friendly match against the representative of Honduras, although sources reported that the footballer had reported some ailments.

The two players have the possibility of joining Jaime Lozano's team, which will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Salcedo would be a reinforcement in the central defense, while César Montes is a footballer who is of the age allowed to participate in the Olympic tournament .

Gerardo Tata Martino has had problems with injuries during his first stay in the United States in 2021, since before the start of the Nations League he had to cancel Rodolfo Pizarro and Jonathan Dos Santos, in addition to that Jesús Tecatito Corona had ailments from before starting concentration.
