The Auriazules have a date with history, but a ghost of the past looms over them, since the last time they were in this stage, they were defeated by Saprissa

What are the Pumas' chances of beating the Seattle Sounders in the final?

According to data from specialized websites consulted, Pumas UNAM has a 36% chance of winning the CONCACAF Champions League, while Seattle Sounders have a 39% chance of winning the cup at home.

And the chances of a draw in regular time are 25%, so it would appear that Pumas do have a good chance of winning the final, but the Sounders' chances are bigger, albeit by a slim margin.

And perhaps this small margin that the Sounders have over Pumas UNAM is due to the absence of players in the Liga MX club, such as Alan Mozo, a player of the Universitarios who was injured since the first leg against MLS

In that game, the defender was injured when the Ecuadorian Xavier Arreaga fell on his left leg, causing a kind of leverage on his ankle and knee.

Fortunately, the force of the blow did not cause a more serious injury, but everything seems to indicate that it will prevent the player from playing in the final of the tournament.

However, it's not all bad news for the Mexican team, as a few days ago the Auriazul squad announced that Nicolás Freire could play in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League.

The player was not with Pumas in the match against Pachuca in University City due to a hamstring injury and back pain.

The other injured player is Sebastián Saucedo, who suffered muscle discomfort and will not be able to play against the Tuzos either. As a result, Pumas faced the match against Pachuca with several absentees due to injury or as a precaution.

The ghost of the past that haunts Pumas UNAM

Until now, the only Mexican club to have lost a CONCACAF Champions League final has been Pumas UNAM, when it was defeated by Saprissa of Costa Rica in the 2005 tournament.

However, the Mexican club managed to beat Saprissa in the Round of 16 in that tournament, before later making an epic comeback against the New England Revolution.

In the first leg, Pumas lost 3-0, but in the second leg, they beat the Revs by the same score to force the match to penalties, which the Auriazules won.

And their toughest test was against Cruz Azul, a team against which Pumas UNAM won the first leg with a score of 2-1, and in the second leg, they were able to defend that result, earning the right to play in the final.
