The Universitarios were tied with the Sounders in the first leg at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario and hope that in the second leg, the game will not get out of hand again.

This is how Pumas UNAM's trip to the United States to play the Concachampions final against the Seattle Sounders began

At 7:50 a.m. this morning, the Universitarios boarded the plane that would take them to the United States for Wednesday's match against the last of the MLS clubs still alive in the tournament.

The Universitarios had the final practice in the bag, as they were winning the match with a 2-0 score until shortly after the halfway point of the second half, thanks to a brace by Juan Ignacio Dinenno.

The Argentinean managed to score a penalty kick and later a goal of his own, which put the Seattle Sounders on the ropes, and they had the match and the final practically won.

However, with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation time, two unfortunate plays gave the Sounders two penalty kicks, and the MLS team did not forgive.

Therefore, the club had to travel to the United States with the final still in suspense as the score is tied and now, only the best will be able to win the confederation title, which will translate into a direct pass to the FIFA Club World Cup

And if there is one thing that stands out in this final, it is that the away goal rule is not in force at this stage of the tournament, so the club that wins the second leg will be crowned.

Pumas UNAM has a wound from the Concacaf Champions League past that needs to heal

So it will be a matter of waiting until Wednesday, May 4 to find out if the Universitarios manage to shake off the stigma of being the only Mexican club to have lost a CONCACAF Champions League final to a non-Mexican team.

On the previous occasion on which the university team played in a CONCACAF Champions League final, the club was defeated by Saprissa of Costa Rica in 2005.

The tournament, which at the time was called the Concacaf Champions Cup, was played on May 5 at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium, where the home team won 2-0. The second leg was a 2-1 win for Pumas in a packed U.C. stadium, but not enough to win on aggregate.
