Since parting ways with Santiago Solari after eight rounds of Clausura 2022, where the Argentine coach left them at the bottom of the table with only six points, Club América has been looking for a coach to replace him.

For now, Las Águilas have Fernando “Tano” Ortíz as the interim coach, a position he will have for the rest of the season, but for Apertura 2022, he’ll return coaching the U-20 squad, job he arrived at at the beginning of the year.

So far, “Tano” Ortíz has coach three games in Liga MX, earning four out of the nine available points, and even if the team looked good on the last game against Toluca, where they won 3-0, during the FIFA match window, they returned to the old version of Las Águilas.

On a friendly game disputed in Houston, América was defeated by Tigres by a 2-1 score, showing that there’s still much work to do before even been considered candidates to play the Repechaje, which is why Emilio Azcárraga already decided who is going to take over the team.

Who is the coach that Azcárraga wants in América?

Azcárraga isn’t happy with the lack of improvement that América has had, as they went from having the worst start in a Liga MX season to become irregulars, at best. That’s why he has decided who is the coach that will arrive in El Nido.

According to reports from sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez and from La República de Perú, Ricardo Gareca is the coach chosen to arrive in Las Águilas over the summer, as he has the capabilities to coach a club as big as Club América.

Can Gareca arrive in Las Águilas?

It’s yet to be seen if the Argentine coach can arrive in Club América, as he’s currently focused on the last game that Peru National Team will dispute against Paraguay in the CONMEBOL Qualifiers. A victory will give them the ticket to the playoffs.

But if they don’t win and Colombia beats Venezuela, Peru won’t be part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Gareca will part ways with La Blanquirroja, opening the door to his arrival in Liga MX and to Club América.
