Club América: Fernando Ortíz praises the responsible for Las Águilas resurgence

Las Águilas managed to finish the season with eight straight games without losing, something that gave them the opportunity of not only making it into the next stage of Clausura 2022 but avoiding completely playing Repechaje.

The Azulcremas were able to do it thanks to Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, who took over the team after eight rounds and at the bottom of the table, given that Las Águilas only won one game with Santiago Solari on the dugout, reason why he has sacked.

Fernando Ortíz will also use the bye week to start looking for players to strengthen the squad, as he knows that there’s still some positions that will need to be improved in order to keep playing at the same level the next season.

They are already pursuing the addition of one player

Although one of the priorities for “El Tano” Ortíz is to find a new striker, as neither Henry Martín nor Federico Viñas have been able to contribute consistently, he knows that Las Águilas also need to strengthen their defense.

That’s why they are after the acquisition of Matheus Dória, who has become one of the best defenders in Liga MX since his arrival at Santos Laguna in 2018, something that has earned him the captain badge at Los Guerreros.

Dória is on the final stage of becoming a Mexican citizen, as this may he will have the citizenship test, and given that he never debuted with Brazil, in 2023 he’ll be eligible to wear El Tri colors, something that he’s said in the past he’s interested in doing.

Matheus Dória’s market value

This will not be the first negotiation between both clubs as they have a history of being good trading partners, including the transfer of Juan Ferney Otero and Diego Valdés for Clausura 2022. If Las Águilas were to acquire Dória, they will have to pay $6.3 million.
