After the scoreless draw in the Clásico Joven, Club América ensured their presence in Liguilla, as they finished the regular season of Clausura 2022 in the top four, just above Club Puebla, who were in the Liguilla spots for the whole season until the 17th round.

The Cruz Azul player that impressed Fernando Ortíz and now wants in Club América

This achievement becomes more impressive after Club América had the worst start in Liga MX since the 1957-58 season, as they only had six points after nine rounds as a result of one victory, three draws and five defeats.

Fernando “Tano” Ortíz is the artificer behind the resurgence of Las Águilas, as he found a way of making them play according to their strengths, something that boosted their confidence and hence the results that now have them with an 8-game unbeaten streak.

But “El Tano” knows that that there’s another responsible for their comeback other than the players, even if Guillermo Ochoa recovered his level and Diego Valdés who become one of the most important players in the roster.

Who is the main responsible for their success?

Fernando Ortíz quickly found the best lineup, thanks to the performances of players like Alejandro Zendejas, who showed why he was considered to be one of the most promising Mexican players, or Álvaro Fidalgo, who is one of the most consistent players in Las Águilas roster.

He even moved Roger Martínez from the center to the left side of the offense, where he felt more comfortable, and gave young players the opportunity of earning playing time with the first team, thanks to his time coaching the U-20 squad.

But after the game against Cruz Azul, Ortíz said that the main responsible for the change they went through to become one of the strongest contenders or the title were Club América followers, who never stopped supporting them.

Will Ortíz remain in Club América’s dugout?

The Argentine coach said that he will wait until the end of the season to talk about his future in Club América, although he has great possibilities of becoming the next coach of Las Águilas if they manage to make it into semifinals.
