Chivas were able to win their last game of the season with a last-minute goal scored by Miguel Ángel Ponce that gave them the chance of remaining unbeaten with Ricardo Cadena on the dugout as well as receiving the Repechaje in Estadio Akron.

El Rebaño Sagrado will receive Pumas UNAM on Sunday night on the one-game direct elimination stage, as they look to improve their unbeaten streak against a team that they defeated just a week ago on the same venue.

The victory against Pumas on the round 16 of Clausura 2022 meant the third victory for Ricardo Cadena, tying what Marcelo Michel Leaño did during his stint in El Rebaño Sagrado, although for Cadena it took 10 games less.

Even if this is Cadena’s first experience coaching in Liga MX, he has found a way to succeed in one of Mexico’s biggest teams, as they have become one of the top contenders to win Liga MX thanks to the good performances they had in the last part of the season.

Peláez is looking to change coaches once Clausura 2022 is over

But not even the good results that Chivas has gathered at the end of the regular season -they didn’t finish in the top 4 only for the goal difference, as they were tied in points with Club América- have ensured his stay in El Rebaño’s dugout.

The plan is for Ricardo Cadena to return to CD Tapatío in Liga de Expansión, where he was coaching before Marcelo Michel Leaño was sacked, to continue the preparation of the reserve players, and the coaching job at Chivas is taken by a new coach.

During the broadcasting of the last game of the season, between Club León and CD Toluca, it was revealed that Ricardo Peláez is interested in signing Ignacio “Nacho” Ambríz as Chivas next coach, even if he couldn’t help Toluca play the Repechaje and now will have to pay a Relegation Fee.

Can he remain as Chivas coach?

There’s one way in which he could ensure his stay as Chivas coach for the next season, but El Rebaño will need to make it to the final of Clausura 2022 in order for that to happen, as Cadena will have to surpass what Victor Manuel Vucetich achieved during his stint, where Chivas made it to the semifinals of Clausura 2020.
