Chivas were able to finish the season as the sixth standing in Liga MX after having irregular results with Marcelo Michel Leaño, who coached them for 13 games and left them out of Repechaje spots with only 14 points as a result of three victories and five draws.

Chivas could add a new striker that has scored over 100 goals if Amaury Vergara hurries

But since Michel Leaño was sacked and Ricardo Cadena was promoted to interim coach for the last four games of the regular season, Chivas were able to change their fate and, with four straight victories, they were able to reach the top side of the standings.

If El Rebaño wants to keep their good streak and advance to Liguilla, they will have to win against Pumas in the Repechaje, game that they will receive in Estadio Akron, team that they already beat with Ricardo Cadena on charge.

But the Mexican coach knows that there’s still things to improve in the current roster if they want to keep the momentum going into the next season, especially since they haven’t found a striker that can score consistently.

Vergara rejected him and now he’s on his way to Europe

José Juan Macías hasn’t been able to help the team since Ricardo Cadena took over, as he’s been dealing with an injury that has kept him out of the pitches although he will be on the bench for the Repechaje game as he received the medical discharge.

On the other hand, Ángel Zaldívar has become a liability for the team, as he only scored three goals during the season, two of them in the first two games of Clausura 2022, but the player that was called to be his replacement was blacklisted by Amaury Vergara and now is close to moving to Europe.

According to reports, now that Matías Almeyda will coach AEK Athens in his first coaching job in Europe, he wants to arrive in the Greek League along Eduardo “Chofis” López, a striker he knows well from his time in Chivas and San José Earthquakes.

“Chofis” López’s market value

The bright side for Chivas is that they still own the economic rights of “La Chofis”, as he’s currently playing with the Quakes on a loan that ends over the summer. If Almeyda and AEK Athens wants to sign him, they will have to pay $2.6 million or wait until December, when he’ll become a free agent.
