No one understood how Amaury Vergara could keep Marcelo Michel Leaño as Chivas’ coach after the poor results he had during 12 games of Clausura 2022, but after the 3-1 defeat on Wednesday night against Monterrey, Vergara finally understood and decided to sack him.

Marcelo Michel Leaño: who is he and how much did the Chivas manager who was just fired earn?

Even if Michel Leaño wasn’t on the dugout on the game against Rayados, as he was sent off over the weekend on the 1-1 draw against Toluca, was the main responsible for the debacle the team had in the second half, as he never found a way of making the team be focused during the 90 minutes.

During his stint in Chivas, Michel Leaño coached 22 games although he was only able to win five of them -two for Apertura 2021 and thee for Clausura 2022-. Chivas tied nine more games and lost the remainder eight.

Now, with just four games left to be played in Clausura 2022, Amaury Vergara already decided who is going to be Chivas coach, at least for the remainder of the season, although he could keep the job if he helps El Rebaño Sagrado play in Liguilla.

Ricardo Cadena knows the institution

Vergara decided to promote Ricardo Cadena as the interim coach of Chivas for the remainder four games of the regular season. Cadena was coaching CD Tapatío, Chivas’ reserve team that currently plays in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight.

After an impressive first half of the season, where Tapatío was leader for a few weeks, the Guadalajara team currently stands ninth, having won six games, tied four and lost five, for a total of 24 points, which granted them access to Liguilla in Liga de Expansión.

Cadena has been part of Chivas’ academy teams for a while now, as he has been coaching different squads, and he even was champion with the U-17 team in 2019. He has also coached Correcaminos UAT, from the Mexican second division.

Who will arrive at Chivas if he doesn’t stay?

Amaury Vergara and Ricardo Peláez know that they can’t go through another disappointment like Michel Leaño, which is why they’re already considering different options if Cadena doesn’t improve Chivas performances. One of the favorites to arrive at Chivas is Ricardo Ferretti.
