Club América is having one of the worst seasons in recent history, as they haven’t been able to leave the bottom of the table after a disastrous start, where they only managed to win their first game after five rounds of Clausura 2022.

Club América will finally have a new coach to replace Santiago Solari

Since parting ways with Santiago Solari after eight rounds, where América only earned six points, Las Águilas have slowly left the last places of Liga MX standings, although they still have a long way to reach the spots that grant a ticket to Repechaje.

So far, with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz on the dugout as the interim coach, the Azulcremas have won one game, tied another one and lost one more, earning almost the same points that Solari had but in less than half of the games.

Nevertheless, Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are still looking for a coach that can take over the team once Clausura 2022 is over, and for now, the coach that takes the lead is Alfredo Tena, who has a long history with the Azulcremas.

Can Alfredo Tena take over the team?

According to reports, after leaving the academy teams of Las Águilas, Alfredo Tena currently lives in Spain, where he’s studying to improve his skills and training abilities, which opens the door for an eventual return to Club América, as his intention is keep coaching.

His arrival in Las Águilas will put an end to the irregular job that Santiago Baños has done, who hasn’t been able to establish a solid project, although Baños won’t be the only one leaving the Azulcremas, as Tena knows that América needs to change their roster.

Who are the players that will leave when Tena arrives?

Tena is aware that what Club América currently is lacking is a striker that can score, something that Henry Martín hasn’t been able to do, neither with Las Águilas nor with the Mexican national team, which is why he wouldn’t be part of the squad for the next season.

Alongside Martín, “El Capitán Furia” will also part ways with Jordan Silva, who hasn’t found regularity and Mauro Lainez, as he has even been erased by “Tano” Ortíz, who knows that the older of the Lainez brothers doesn’t have the level to play in América.
