Turns them down but would now say yes to them, the player who could be Manchester United's first reinforcement

Speaking to The Mirror, a Manchester United executive has made very clear the position of the Old Trafford club. “We want De Jong, but we are not going to be the oxygen tank that saves Barça's economy. We will only sign him for a price that is reasonable in the market.”

De Jong is awaiting news. Initially, the player declared his desire to remain at Barça and did not seem very interested with the offer from Manchester United, who will not play in the Champions League next season. The signing of Erik Ten Hag as Manchester United's new manager explains why De Jong is now more receptive. The coach has already explained his project to the Barça player and has told him that he wants him to be United’s franchise player.

Frenkie de Jong is also aware that Barça is going through a delicate economic situation and that the sporting director and the president, Joan Laporta, gave the go ahead to his potential transfer. This is having an impact on the mid-fielder’s decision, as he’s worried that the club is more interested on money at the moment,

Xavi's change of mind

Xavi initially told De Jong that he wanted him to stay at Barça. However, in recent weeks, the Blaugrana coach has been more enigmatic about the subject. This is probably because Barcelona’s economic situation is weighing in on Xavi’s sporting decisions, placing him in a very difficult spot.
