Zinedine Zidane has had lots of crazy ideas, not only heading Marco Materazzi’s chest in 2006 like when he scored against Brazil in the 1998 World Cup Final. Real Madrid’s coach is looking for new faces at the back to replace Sergio Ramos, who seems set to leave at the end of his contract in next summer. But he could bring up a strange deal.

It was recently reported that Real Madrid was giving up in the run for Dayot Upamecano, the French center back that is having a very solid spell for Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old is valued in $72 million according to Transfermarkt, but his release clause is $54.5 million. The German side has stated that is the minimum price they will accept.

Now they have another man in mind: Jules Koundé. The center back from Sevilla is almost as expensive in the market as Upamecano, but for him, Zidane has a specific idea: offering his club a trade for one of Real Madrid’s stars. It’s unlikely the White House pays the reported value of $60 million or an even higher release clause, if it exists.

Zidane is planning to phone Monchi, Sevilla’s sporting director, and offer him a player-swap between Isco Alarcón and Koundé. The 28-year-old playmaker has seen little action and seems to be out of the coach’s consideration. Therefore, perhaps he sees with good eyes the chance of moving to Sevilla and keep on playing continental competitions.
