Why Liverpool and Manchester's proposal to the Premier League is elitist
The most popular and powerful teams in England are in talks to the Premier League with a new proposal that many fans consider a bit unfair.
The actual Premier League champion and the always powerful Red Devils are trying to modify the system of the league. This is not about the pandemic, this proposal called Project Big Picture seems to have other interests and if it gets approved it will give even more influence and power to the big clubs.
What is the proposal about? Basically, they want to reduce the number of teams from 20 to 18 and also change the voting structure of the Premier League. This obviously will give more power to the big teams, but not only because of the voting. There are also talks for eliminating the EFL Cup and the Community Shield match.
The elitist part comes to the number of teams, twenty seems to be fine, so why do Manchester and Liverpool would want to eliminate two? There are some fans out there telling to the clubs that if they want to reduce the number to 18, the two should voluntarily go to play in the Football League Championship, but we all know that is not going to happen.
Apparently, the original plan came from Liverpool’s ownership group, Fenway Sports Group. Besides all of this, there would be also changes to promotion and relegation. In conclusion, if this gets the approval of the Premier League, it will show how much power these teams have and how they can control the league if they want.
