The Executive Committee of the European Football Union (UEFA) resolved this Wednesday to maintain the five changes in the matches of the final phase of the next European Championship and decided to leave the public limit in the stadiums to the discretion of the authorities of each country, in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of the meeting held this Wednesday, the conclave of the leaders of European football was not issued, as expected, on the modifications in the format of future competitions.

UEFA also decided to open the possibility that the European finals (Champions League and Europa League) be played with fans in the stands, as well as the places assigned to Europe for the 2022 Women's U-20 World Cup, the Spanish newspaper said. Sports world.

The main decisions taken by the body are the following

* The five changes of players per team are maintained: the use of up to five changes in Euro 2020, in the Final Phase of the UEFA Nations League 2021 and in their matches will be allowed to decide the relegation. The rule is in force in the national and international calendars, as well as in the qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

* Public: the national authorities decide. The Committee reviewed its decision of October 1, which allowed the return of spectators to matches with up to 30% of stadium capacity. Now, taking into account that each Federation faces a different situation in the fight against the pandemic, that limit is no longer necessary and the decision on the number of spectators allowed must be the sole responsibility of the competent local authorities.

The new Champions League

As for the variants that the Champions League will offer from 2024, it was announced that an "official decision" will only be made in the next session of the body based in the Swiss city of Nyon, on April 19.

UEFA wants to raise the number of participants in the Champions League from 32 to 36 teams and for each club to play ten games before the finals, a significant change that would put the group stage aside, according to the German soccer magazine. Kicker.

The Champions League delivers 2.4 billion dollars each season between 32 clubs, the new format will add 100 games, with the addition of four teams to have the participation of 36 clubs.
