Real Madrid spent fortunes during the last transfer windows trying to find a top attacker, that could occupy the place left vacant by Cristiano Ronaldo after his departure to Juventus. President Florentino Pérez worked hard to try to find that player who could become the new striker from the Galacticos.
With the approval of Zinedine Zidane one of those who arrived was Mariano Díaz, an attacker born in Spain who played for Dominican Republic and that landed to the Spanish side on August 2018 for $22 million from Olympique Lyon. Real Madrid wasted a lot of money on a forward who just played 47 games so far, scoring 11 goals.
With a contract remaining until June 2023, Zizou thinks that having him in the squad is a waste of money and time and asked Florentino to axe him soon. Mariano had the chance to enter in seven matches so far this season, in which he scored just one goal, and the chances the French coach gives to him are every day less.
Trying to find a club paying more than $20 million for Mariano nowadays is impossible and Real Madrid knows it. But the club wants to recover some investment made for the player and there are some interested teams. The one that showed intentions of signing him recently was West Ham, that could make a bid to sign him.
